Today we were talking about Christmas in English speaking countries at school. Let me tell you what I have leard.
They celebrate Christmas on 25th December in memorial of Jesus Christ birthday. In the United States many people decorate their houses with christmastrees and garden lights. They cook a dinner for family and friends and give each other gifts. Parents tell their children that Santa Claus brings them their presents. Some schools and churches organize special events. At this time of year all school etc. are closed.
Christmas Eve: People celebrate it in the evening of 24th December. They take dinners with their familys. In some cultures they exchange presents and have Christmas trees, mistletoes and other decorations up.
Christmas Day: Some things people do are exchanging presents, singing Christmas songs and going to parties. A special moment for the kids is when they get the presents from Santa Claus.
Boxing Day: In Great Britain this is usually the day where servants and tradesman reveice their presents known as Christmas Box.
I personally do not celebrate Christmas because of my religion. But i analyzed it myself and I came to the conclusion that it wouldn`t be something I`d like to celebrate anyways.
Thank you for reading my entry.
