Press Review about the Awake Magazine

Hello everybody!

Welcome to my press review about the article “When disasters strike” which I read a few days ago. It was published in the Awake Magazine in 2017. It basically deals with precaution and steps you should take before a disaster happens.

The author mentions some things you should do before, during and after disasters.

Before something happens, it is important to prepare mentally, because you should be Aware of the fact, that something might happen to your beloved ones. According to what the author says you must learn some facts about the upcoming disaster because that way you will able to prepare more rational. The last thing you have to do is to prepare emergency supplies.

During a disaster you have to be able to act quickly and that is why, for example if there is a fire you should stay close to the floor and move quickly to the nearest exit. Many more disasters as earthquakes, tsunamis and hurricanes are mentioned and how it is best to act in such a situation.

It is recommended to always have blankets, warm clothes, flashlights, spare batteries, food, dust masks, toothbrushes, soap, towels, care supplies, medication, important documents, a list of emergency contacts, cash or a credit card, and because it is a on religion based magazine a bible is listed too.

After a disaster it is important to stay with close friends and family because you’ll feel safer being with people you love. It also says that you should use personal protective equipment and if needed to wear gloves and protective clothes. Keeping your daily routine is vital for mental wellbeing. Something that is hard to accept, is that disasters cause loss, but acknowledging it you’ll feel better under the circumstances. What shouldn’t be neglected is that it can cause emotional injuries, not only physical pain.

To encourage people who had to suffer because of disasters, there is mentioned Revelations 21:4,5 which besides are one of my favourite verses. It states: “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain be anymore, the former things have passed away.  And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also he says: “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”

Kira Grünberg

I’ve just listen to this talk from Kira Grünberg. It was absolutely impressing and that is why I want to give you a short overview of what I find amazing about her and her personality. What you need to know about Kira is that she lives in Tirol and practised the sport called pole vaulting. However, two years ago she had a tragical accident which completely changed her life. She is paraplegic now and told us her story.

A remarkable quality of hers is that she accommodated so quickly with her current situation. You don’t even notice that she is suffering and she points out how valuable a human life is and how fast it can change or even be over. When you talk to her, you get really motivated because of her mindset. I think that is the reason why many schools want her to give a speech at their schools.

FAT-FREE and HAPPY?

I was absent for a few months now. But lately I’ve been reading a text which was really gripping.  It was released in the Times Magazine on May 22^nd, 2015 and it basically deals with prejudices, cultures, and clichés of different countries.

To give you an example I want to tell you what the author said about Boston. She was extremely excited to arrive there because she had a vision of how beautiful it would be and she was convinced that there would be porches everywhere, she expected everyone to wear striped tennis sweaters and that everything Boston consisted of an impressively unspoilt countryside. However, after she arrived the French author was slightly shocked, because everything looked different than in her imagination.

Or many people accuse America for not having a culture. But what is the actual definition of culture? It is defined as the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes one or more countries. I think we all agree that Amerika has their own kind of culture, even if it might not be what we understand discussing about the term culture.

In my opinion it is very important not to judge before actually meeting another culture, because if everyone did that, no culture would ever be underestimated again.

St. Patrick's Day

Since today is the 17^th of March, I decided to give you some information about St. Patrick’s Day.



Well, first of all people with Irish heritage celebrate it on 17th of March, because it is the day of Patricks dead. Who was this Patrick anyways? He was born in Ireland in 387, when it was occupied by the Roman Empire. When he was 16 years old, he was kidnapped. As those people hadn’t have the same religion than Patrick he started praying. Four years later he had a dream which he believed came from god. Based on this dream he escaped and made it to a ship, whichs captain agreed to take him to England. He decided to study and to become a priest. After a while he upgraded to being a bishop. He turned back to Ireland and told people what he believed in.

A former youth star

Hello everybody!

Since my mom was a very big fan of the Backstreet Boys, when I was a child we used to listen to them a lot. Therefore, in a certain way, my childhood was shaped by them and their music. Her favourite performer was Nick Carter and for this reason I decided to write an entry about him.

Nick joined the Backstreet Boys in 1993, when he was only 13 years old. Despite Nick being so young, he was an idol for many teenagers and became the most famous member of the boy band. Therefore, there was much pressure on him and at this fragile age it wasn’t easy for him to deal with this tension. That is why he used drugs and alcohol to handle the stress but 2008 Carter declared that he had overcome his addiction.

Since 2014 he has been married with Lauren Kitt and in 2016 he became father of his son Odin Reign Carter. Now he is 37 years old and is still active in the music industry. 2016 he realized his last album which is known to the media.

Shopping

Hello everyone!

I really am enthusiastic when it comes to shopping and fashion. That is why I decided to write something about this issue.

Nowadays many people like shopping online much more than going to the shops. Let us Analyse reasons why that could be so. First of all, it is convenient. You are able to buy almost everything on the internet. There is basically no need to go out and buy the products you want anymore. Secondly, online shops have not got opening hours. That means that you can shop whenever you want. People who work untill late hours may have not much time for shopping and for them online shopping is the only possible way to buy whatever they want. Another point would be that online Shopping is stressless. You don’t have to pay attention to anyone and anything, therefore you will be relaxed and you can take as much time as you want to.

Shops in Austria open between 7.00 - 8.00 in the morning and close approximatively at 18.00 – 19.00. In my opinion these opening hours are quite good, because people who work in the supermarkets have time for their families after a working day. With these opening hours I think everyone is able to get their items problem-free.

What I always have to do before a shopping day in the mall is to get something to eat. The problem with this is that my friends and me schedule our time so badly. We always spent so much time at the food section that we don’t even really have time for shopping. I prefer online shopping, because that way I don’t get distracted by friends and I am able to spend as much time on Shopping as I want to.

Thanksgiving

Hello everybody!

Today I would like to tell you something about Thanksgiving.

First of all, let’s discuss about the origin of this feast day. The history of Thanksgiving started in 1620 when british settlers arrived on the East coast of America, in Boston. It was approximately the beginning of winter. They hadn’t had really much food available and they were freezing. The following spring some Indians helped them to have a convenient agriculture. Therefore, in the winter of 1621 they had enough food and so, on the ending of November, they decided to thank god for the many blessings. What they did was organizing a dinner, sitting together and just enjoying the food.
