Hello everybody!
I was absent for a few months now. But lately I’ve been
reading a text which was really gripping. It was released in the Times Magazine on May
22nd, 2015 and it basically deals with prejudices, cultures, and clichés
of different countries.
To give you an example I want to tell you what the author
said about Boston. She was extremely excited to arrive there because she had a
vision of how beautiful it would be and she was convinced that there would be
porches everywhere, she expected everyone to wear striped tennis sweaters and
that everything Boston consisted of an impressively unspoilt countryside.
However, after she arrived the French author was slightly shocked, because
everything looked different than in her imagination.
Or many people accuse America for not having a culture. But
what is the actual definition of culture? It is defined as the set of shared
attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes one or more
countries. I think we all agree that Amerika has their own kind of culture,
even if it might not be what we understand discussing about the term culture.
In my opinion it is very important not to judge before actually
meeting another culture, because if everyone did that, no culture would ever be
underestimated again.
